Hi, my name is Sander Wind, born in 1981. I live in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, close to the airport. How close? Well, when I look to the left while sitting behind my computer and runway 06 is in use, I can spot the incoming aircraft and can picture them from the balcony. My interest in aviation (especially military aviation) started at the time I was 7 or 8 years old. During a summer holiday in Germany with my family, 2 Tornado's flew a low approach over the house we stayed in, shortly followed by a CH-53G. I was outside the house when all this happened, and you can guess...I was sold.
In 1993 I went for the first time to the "Open dag" ("Open day") event of the Royal Netherlands Air force, together with my cousin (Maarten Wind), who is also interested in military aviation. I started as a spotter at the nearest military field near my house at that time, i.e., Valkenburg NAS. First going there by bike, but as soon as I had my driver license I changed my bike for a car (which is much better in the Netherlands, due to the weather conditions). I enjoy the making of a great photo, especially of aircraft. I started with a very basic camera, but traded this one for my first 'real' camera somewhere around 1997. Back then I made photos on slides.
Then came the digital age and I found myself experimenting more with the camera functions andwhat was in the shot. Fortunaly this didn't came unnoticed, and soon I had my photos published in severeal magazines and sold some that are being used in books. It's gives a good feeling to see your photos in such media. Currently I'm employed with the Royal Netherlands Air Force, so the time I have to spend on photographing is reduced a lot. I hope you like this site and the photos on it. If you have any questions or remarks, feel free to contact me!
